Curling and community at the new Mayflower rink

I’ve been a supporter of the Mayflower Curling Club for years and am really excited that it’s opening in our community.

The Club has a long and interesting history. It started in 1905, was used briefly as a morgue for Titanic victims in 1912, and was destroyed in the Halifax Explosion in 1917. It was rebuilt and moved a few times, and now it’s coming to Timberlea.

Timberlea is growing fast, and with the Mayflower Curling Club joining Brunello Links, it offers great activities year-round. The building will be ready in August, and curling starts in September.

This will be Nova Scotia’s largest curling facility, with eight sheets of ice. It will be a beacon for competitive curlers and a welcoming facility for new curlers. Curling is social, welcoming, and truly for everyone. I encourage you to join the community and register today! If you’ve never curled before, there will be Learn to Curl programs available. If you’ve haven’t curled since you were a junior, now is the time to dust off those shoes.

The Mayflower will also host big events that will help local businesses and hotels. Rob MacIsaac will be the Mayflower’s catering partner and the new rink will also have modern meeting facilities. It will have a fully equipped boardroom and a large function room upstairs, both of which can be rented for small and large gatherings.

I’m looking forward to everything the Mayflower Curling Club will bring to our community!
