Residents have contacted my office to report road conditions and potholes appearing throughout the Timberlea-Prospect riding. I am pleased to report the Department of Public Works has repaired the potholes on Highway 103 and along the Prospect Road.
Due to the high volume of calls regarding the poor condition of the Prospect Road, particularly in the 2.5 km stretch from the lights at the intersection of St. Margarets Bay Road and Prospect Road, to Evergreen Place, I wrote to the Minister of Public Works requesting the department to advance the repaving of this section of the road to this year.
Please see the reply from the Minister of Public Works below:
Dear MLA Rankin,
Thank you for your correspondence dated January 31, 2022, regarding the repaving project of Route 333.
Public Works is responsible for over 23, 000 kilometers of road and 4,100 bridges. Good planning and prioritization of maintenance and construction work are essential to ensure our transportation network is safe and efficient. Public Works staff work diligently to identify and prioritize repaving projects within the available funding. The repaving of Route 333 from Evergreen Place to Trunk 3 will remain planned for the 2024-2025 construction season based on available funding and department priorities.
Route 333 from Terence Bay Road to Trunk 3 is designated as an intermediate-weight road. Intermediate weight is classified as 49, 500 kilograms or less.
Public Works operates a Vehicle Compliance Group to ensure heavy commercial vehicles are complying with the Weights and Dimension of Vehicles Regulations. Vehicle Compliance operates five scale houses, in addition to several mobile units across the province.
Thank you once again for bringing your concerns forward. If there are immediate safety concerns or road hazards you wish to report, please contact our 24-hour Operations Contact Center at 1-844-696-7737 or via email at dpw-occ@novascotia.ca to discuss specific problems that need attention, and they will assign to the appropriate Public Works staff for follow up.
Sincerely,
Kim D. Masland
Minister
